We recently spent 2.5 days in Venice, an unforgettable whirlwind of canals, gelato, and crowds. But with so much to see, I genuinely debated whether it was worth giving up one of our days to head out into the countryside.
Turns out, it absolutely was.
Booking the “Sparkling Day in the Prosecco Hills” tour with Yellow Boot Tours ended up being one of the best decisions of our trip. It gave us a much-needed breather from the packed piazzas of Venice. The moment we stepped into the calm, rolling hills of the Veneto countryside, it felt like a reset. Quiet roads, lush vineyards, panoramic views – so my vibe (and, let’s be real, whatever my vibe is, it’s also my family’s).
We did this tour at the start of July, and the weather was ideal – sunny with a light breeze and temps around 29°C during the day, cooling to 19°C at night. We returned to Venice by 6 PM, which meant we still had time to enjoy dinner, wander the square, soak in that dreamy golden hour glow, and of course, grab more gelato. It truly felt like the best of both worlds.
The Experience
We hopped on a morning train from Venice to Conegliano, where we were greeted by our host Carlo, a total gem of a human. Warm, funny, and clearly passionate about Prosecco. He insisted we grab a coffee and pastry (on him) before the day officially began, which set the tone for what turned out to be such a relaxed and joy-filled experience.
Over the course of the day, we visited three different wineries, each with its own vibe, but all with stunning views. Carlo walked us through the winemaking process, the different classifications of Prosecco, and little insider stories about the region. His love for what he does is infectious.
Although his family’s restaurant was on holiday (how very Italian), he took us to a local osteria, the kind of place where you sit elbow-to-elbow with locals. The food? So fresh, so simple, and so delicious. Honestly, you can’t ask for anything better.
A Kid-Friendly Surprise
I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure how the kids would handle a wine tour. But they honestly had a blast. They played UNO at the tables, chased grasshoppers in the vineyard, and fell completely in love with Pina, the local cat at our last stop. Watching them race down the rows of vines, completely unplugged from screens, was one of my favorite memories of the day.

Final Thoughts
