Birthday Cake Smash | London Ontario Photograper | Daria Keenan Photography
I was so happy to photograph this easy going family once again! Last time I saw Emily and Anthony was when I photographed their maternity session! Well…fast forward one year later and here we are once again except this time we’re celebrating Aaliyah’s first birthday! Emily chose Gateway Equine Healing Centre in Denfield, Ontario for their family photo location. For more information about the centre, please click on the link above. The location was extra special for Emily since this is where her mom keeps her horse. The day of the shoot the weather was very warm and slightly overcast. The sun decided to peek out just after 8pm. One of their favourite parts of the session was watching little Aaliyah devour the cake! I mean like…she chowed it down like it was her dinner! I included a quick little video here if you want to see the cake smashing in action!
Wardrobe: “I chose a long navy, flowing dress…I didn’t want anything too dressy but something simple. Aaliyah wore a babydoll shirt/dress with capris leggings from The Children’s Place. I wanted her to look dressy but not over the top as we wanted more casual, candid photos. We also had a jean vest and a cute hat to change things up a bit. Anthony wore a light blue polo shirt with light grey Nautica shorts. We chose blue/grey tones for us and Aaliyah’s subtle print top with blue, pink and green gave a pop of colour.”
Props: “Daria brought a little horse that Aaliyah rode on for some pics-to tie in the farm theme. We didn’t really want too many other props as we just wanted the photos to be candid shots without anything looking too staged.”
Worries?: “I wasn’t sure what kind of shots we would get with just Aaliyah as she is a very busy girl but Daria did an amazing job capturing her even when she was on the move!”
Words of Wisdom: “Just be in the moment and enjoy it-the more relaxed you are, the more your little one(s) will be themselves and you can have fun. If something doesn’t work or your little one is not cooperating the way you want, move on and go with the flow!”
