London Ontario Photographer | Grand Cayman Caribbean Club Wedding
Set on the stunning white shores of Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman, Gina and Todd said their I do’s at the beautiful Caribbean Club. I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to work with. It was such a relaxed day filled with love, fun, friends and family! The weather was beautiful and the sun set magically as the couple and guests enjoyed the cocktail hour. Coral & nautical navy embodied the essence of this sea-side wedding! Everything was perfect!
Much love, success, and happiness to you Gina and Todd, and your sweet little boy!
|How did you two meet?
Todd and I met in 2006 when were working for the same energy company in Houston, Texas. At the time Gina lived in Baltimore and Todd lived in Houston Texas. We did not start dating until 2009.
|How did he pop the question?
Friday, April 04, 2014On a beautiful and sunny spring afternoon in Houston, Todd asked Gina if she would like to go for a bike ride to check out the new bridges which span the Buffalo Bayou. Earlier that week, Todd had scoped out a perfect spot on the bridge to “pop the question.” As they prepared their bikes for the ride, Todd discreetly slipped a diamond ring and a painted padlock into his pocket.Todd and Gina rolled down Allen parkway and onto the one bridge spanning the Bayou which has a particularly majestic view of the city. Just a few months earlier, the two had vacationed in France for several weeks. While walking through Paris, they crossed the Pont do l’Archeveche – a bridge which crosses the Seine and is home to countless padlocks fastened to the parapet which bear the names of couples in love. That day in Paris, Gina had suggested that they find a lock to attach to the bridge. However, they left the city for wine tasting in Burgundy before they had a chance. On the perfect spring afternoon in Houston, as they rolled across the crest of the bridge, Todd asked Gina to stop for a water break. As he knealt down to get the water bottle, he presented her with a lock on which he painted their names and the date. The lock is meant to symbolize two lives linked together forever. Gina and Todd fastened the lock to the bridge, and he then presented her with a diamond ring and asked for her hand in marriage.
Upon returning home, Todd announced that they had dinner reservations at one of their favorite date spots, Brasserie 19. He presented her with five new dresses which he had purchased earlier that week and asked her to choose one for dinner. Gina got dressed, as beautiful as ever, and they headed out to dinner. When they walked into the restaurant, they were directed to their table where Joe and Ellen Longo and Frank and Pat Van Roten were waiting with champagne.
After dinner, everyone headed out to Kenneally’s – a local irish pub down the street from home. Upon opening the doors to Kenneally’s the couple were greeted by a large group of friends who had assembled to celebrate the news with them. In the early hours of the morning, after many pints of Guinness, the family returned home to Tyson the Dog who also celebrated. Their lock remains fastened to the bridge over Buffalo Bayou.
|How long have you been together?
Todd, you did really well with the ring! Check out this beauty!!Todd looking pretty dapper in his wedding seersucker suit!
Some of Gina’s girlfriends who couldn’t attend the wedding in Cayman Islands put together a scrapbook of letters, photos and their favourite memories! How sweet is that! Good job girls!Beautiful coral and green wedding bouquets!Tell me about your dress. Where did you find it, how did you choose it, how did you know it was the one?
I had gone to 3 boutiques and Now & Forever was the last. I purchased the last dress I tried on, it wasn’t even a dress that I pulled from the floor, it was suggested by the boutique owner, and he was right that I would love it. I had an entirely different vision of what I wanted, I thought I wanted straps, but as soon as I put this Justina McCaffrey on, it was a no brainer. Not only did I love it on, but it also photographed very well which is important!Gina’s two-toned wedding dress fit her beautifully! This kid! haha so full of personality! This was his cheese face!
|What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding?
Well, there were quite a few. I have to say walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Todd at the end waiting for me while everyone was stating at me had to be my most favorite. We did the “first look”, but seeing him down there seemed still to be such a surprise. I think we both teared up. And the meaning of my dad walking me down that aisle – just amazing, knowing he was ‘giving his baby girl’ away!Another ‘memorable’ moment was our vows… the drone was behind us filming and you could hear a faint…bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Never got in the way and took amazing footage.
|How would you describe your overall wedding experience?Overall the entire wedding experience was nostalgic. I wish I could do it all over again. From the beginning of the planning our planners were just amazing, they recommended the best suggestions for every part of the wedding. All our vendors were so easy to work, so professional and kind. I really didn’t stress about anything.|
What advice would you offer to other couples planning a destination wedding?
Choose a great wedding planner to take care of most of the leg work! This will help you so much, you will still be heavily involved, but they take the burden off of you for most of the planning. And trial your make up and hair, play around with different hairstyles with you dress on, so you know exactly what you want.
|What photography-related advice would you offer to a couple?
Trust your photographer. They know the island and where to go. Listen to them when they suggest a timeline. They want to make your big day as memorable for you as you hope it will be. My advice would be to choose Daria! She was the best, she made sure she got all the critical shots and then some! We have so many stunning pictures, I just love looking at them, i don’t think that will ever get old!
|How was your experience taking photos/working with me on your wedding day?
I don’t know what I can say other than the experience with Daria was the best I can imagine. She has some funny phases that will make you laugh during the photos. She captures the intimate shots that you really want to remember. She made us feel so comfortable and took us to the most amazing places on the island to take pictures. She is a true artist, I don’t know how I am ever going to choose the photos for my album because I just love them all so much.
Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting or would you have rather done it differently? Tell me why or why not!
We did see other. We did our first look in an intimate field, with beautiful greenery and flowers (even a white picket fence!) I love the idea of a first look, because we did this, we were able to spend more time enjoying our cocktail hour with friends and family.
|Any tips on how to prepare for the wedding photos?
Trial your make up and hair…that’s all i can think of, other than that, leave the rest up to Daria, she is the professional 🙂
Any tips that you have about preparing your wedding party for the photos? What did you tell them, how did you get them to cooperate, what did you do or what would you have done differently?
We had a very small wedding party, so didn’t really prep them at all.
|Any tips on what to bring?
Daria brought us a water bottle, which was critical b/c of course it’s HOT out there! You can always bring a cute sign (a Thank You banner) to add to the shots.
We loved all of our vendors: Welcome Dinner and Wedding went off without a hitch!
Caterer- Chef Remy @ Rent a Chef, Grand Cayman- delicious food (our guests are still talking about it!), professional kind staff, very responsive when I had questions about the food, set up, etc. Chef Remy even went above and beyond, but bringing a few extras to help us out, (ice, bartender, and a few tropical decorations)
Decorations/Set Up/Breakdown- Celebrations LTD, Grand Cayman,- amazing to work with, very detail oriented, and hands on to guide the bride and groom step by step through everything they need to know. (Also the flower arrangements were over the top gorgeous and the fairy lights & tiki torches provided the best beach bbq setting)Ceremony:
Celebrations LTD- flowers, rentals and decorations
Nicholas Bell- Steel Pan PlayerReception:
Luca- venue, food- I loved that we were able to have a seated dinner, where the servers took our order, and the meal did not drag on. Luca staff knows exactly how to make a wedding flow. To top that the food was incredible, and they had a light night fare which was a great snack for everyone.
Cake- The Cake Studio- easy to work with, very responsive and made great suggestions- and delicious multi flavored cake.
Flowers, Lighting, additional decorations- Celebrations LTD- MaryAnn Mehigan and Andrea Gergely- every suggestions they made was the best. They coordinated everything!
One World- DJ- Craig- he followed the planners timeline and made helpful suggestions to ensure the party was a blast.
Did you find a store/site that had everything you were looking for? Use this space to talk about favorite shops. You can include where you got your dress, sites you got your veils/décor/accessories, etc.
The bride complimented her wedding gown with pale blue Badgley Mischka open toed pumps.
|What were you most anxious, nervous or fearful about regarding your wedding day and what was the outcome?
I was a very laid back bride. I was most nervous about not being able to spend time with each of our guests. It’s very hard to do, when you have so many ppl. I was able to spend time with everyone, some were short, but we certainly got to catch up with each and every guest.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to other couples for planning their wedding?
Hire a wedding planner!
What was the first song you danced to as husband and wife? Father-daughter dance? Mother-son dance?
husband and wife: Ray LaMontagne – You Are The Best Thing
Father Daughter: Van Morrison- Brown Eyed Girl
Mother son: : Dave Matthews- The Best of What’s Around
|Anything else you would like to add / vendors note listed above?
We held both the Welcome Dinner and full wedding on the Caribbean Club grounds. After staying at CC, we will not stay anywhere else. Every villa is decorated beautifully and the entire staff is so welcoming and accommodating. Caribbean Club was so wonderful and I can’t wait to go back every year.
To add some variety we took some portraits at the beautiful Camana Bay!
So incredibly excited that Gina and Todd’s wedding was also featured on The Knot!!
